When you buy a new car or an expensive new pair of shoes, you’re probably going to take really good care of your new belongings to ensure that they are well maintained so they can look good and last a long time, right? It shouldn’t be any different with your furniture – a new living room set, bedroom set, leather couch, dining room table, or whatever it may be, is an investment that can last for generations if taken care of properly.

It is pretty obvious when a beloved piece of wood furniture needs some attention and TLC – food stains and water marks can leave blemishes on a beautiful table and spray-on polishes can leave a sticky dark layer on chairs. Cleaning your fine wood furniture can really damage the finish and the overall aesthetic if the wrong methods are used. Furniture Care & Cleaning

When it’s time to clean your furniture, there are three types of furniture care products to take into consideration – silicone cleaners, waxes and polishes. We recommend avoiding silicone cleaners and waxes. Silicone cleaners can seep into the finish of the product and prevent it from accepting any type of stain or lacquer if you wanted to refinish the piece, and waxes should be avoided because regular use may result in a build-up of waxy film on the surface of your furniture, which can ultimately attract more dirt, smoke and other pollutants. Polishes are your best bet for cleaning wood furniture as they are made up of detergents, emulsifiers and mineral oil. This helps to clean dirt, keep it clean longer and create a barrier for dirt and moisture to further protect the furniture.
